M.A.N.D.Y. are Philipp Jung and Patrick Bodmer. Starting their friendship in their adolescence it grew up in a very inspiring artists collaboration. The beginning was with small DIY parties in Frankfurt area in the mid 90s and now they are part of one of the most advanced thinking German labels Get Physical that is internationally recognized. Philipp already graced Sofia club scene in May while SEEME conference and we put up this brief interview with him in the light of the Fabric 38 release which will be mixed by the M.A.N.D.Y. boys and the upcoming DJ appearance of his mate Patrick in Sofia.

Do you think that festivals like SEEME help developing the electronic music scene in countries like Bulgaria?
A couple of years ago people in these countries they didn’t have the chance to follow because there was no internet, no final distribution of the music, so they had a problem with following the new trends. But now with the internet everybody has access and you guys want to party. I think there are a lot of talents which will be coming up in the next couple of years.

Why Get Physical label is so successful? What’s the secret behind it?
Just work. We are people that have been doing their music on their own for long time. I worked always in a record company. DJ T has got a club magazine and the Booka Shade boys they were producers since always. And we put our ideas together, we worked every day and we still give all our energy to the label. We have now 5 people working for us. We constantly think what we can do better, which artists we can sign, which action to take. And, you know, there’s always a bit of luck.

German scene is very popular at the moment. Are you proud that you are being part of it or you would like to distinguish yourselves?
No. A lot of people talk know about the so-called Berlin scene but I don’t think you can really call it German because there’s so many people from abroad – Richie Hawtin, Ewan Pearson.. I’ve lived there with Konrad Black, the Canadian DJ. I think it’s the whole exchange of Germans and other nations people and of course the German like Kraftwerk, technological Germany. It’s a good time to be in a city which is very open-minded, it’s very cheap compared to NYC, Paris or London and that’s important, if you want to live like an artist. I’m so proud to be there, to me Berlin is the best place in the world right now. Maybe it sounds silly but even though I travel so much, I can’t imagine living somewhere else.

I think, it has a few similarities with Sofia in the way it looks…
Yes, because it’s like fucked up but it has its beauty, it’s both at the same time.

In M.A.N.D.Y. you are 2 people. Do you think that, if you had separate carriers, you would have been able to achieve the same results?
No. It’s like in a relationship. If you’re married and you’re happy, you can do much more than by yourself, that’s sure.
