Studio Martin

The club with the fewest sitting tables, the club with the best sound, the club with the hottest atmosphere, the club which launched house music in Romania and brought this music to a social phenomenon. This way everybody discovered Studio Martin, the place where all Romanian DJs have had gigs and all international DJs continue to praise into the electronic music magazines.

Studio Martin opened its doors in 1993 in the ex-Volga cinema building on Iancu de Hunedoara boulevard. The name of the club is related with a well known lights company from Denmark (company that collaborated with the club).

The Studio Martin project was planned based on the concept of a place where people should come to dance, not to sit down. At the beginning, the club was opened only one day per week and in short period of time people started making long queue on the entrance.

The first years of the club were marked by theme parties like Halloween, students and staff parties, etc. Then the house wave came. Despite the fact that in the time house music was practically unknown in Romania, Studio Martin brought American quality house which raised the club on a high position near the best clubs by that time. Its house music profile is indebted to DJ Vasile and his entourage. They struggled with the club’s owners to convince them about the house music quality.

Studio Martin established itself as one of the most famous clubs in and outside Romania. Soon the best electronic music DJs started to play there. Among those are the names of Timo Mass, Hernan Cattaneo, Anthony Pappa, Hybrid, Derrick May, Craig Richards, Loco Dice, Lee Burridge, Satoshi Tomiie, Sandra Collins, Quivver, James Zabiela, Nick Warren, Ricardo Villalobos, James Lavelle, Gabriel and Dresden, Jimmy Van M, Layo & Bushwacka!, Sister Bliss and many more.

The Mission Management had an important contribution to the growth of Studio Martin. After a few events organized under the trade mark The Mission, the club was invaded by International DJs. The Mission brought to Studio Martin the best names of the electronic music industry.

Studio Martin gained the respect of the Romanian and International DJs. In 2002 Lee Burridge was very impressed by the most vanguard Romanian club: "One of the best parties from year 2002 was the one in Martin, a club which reminds of Fabric from London.” James Lavelle, who chose Studio Martin to produce GU026 Romania, in 2003, had the same opinion.

Studio Martin was closed in 2004 due to financial reasons. It was reopened at the end of 2005 with a new management team. The interior of the club was modified and The Mission became the new owners.
